Exchange Student’s Reminisce on the Year
Kate Thomassen, our Foreign Exchange Student from Kristiansana, Norway, said “I love America!” when she was interviewed for the last time. She said she mad many friends and met even more through her participation in being a cheerleader for wrestling and singing in choir. While she was here Kate learned to love watching football and wrestling. She thinks it is absolutely amazing!
Kate was lucky enough to visit a few of the big cities while she stayed in America. She went to Boston, Chicago, and Des Moines. She said that the big cities were great and that she,” just loved walking around in the cities and watching people” and doing all the other things we expect to do in a large city. She added afterwards,” And of course… I love the shopping in big cities.” Of the big cities they went to Boston was her favorite. It was the first time that she was able to walk around a big city by herself and was able to do whatever she wanted. She doesn’t think that she would want to live in a big city, but she really liked to visit them. When asked if the big cities were the way she expected them to be she said that they were pretty much what she had expected because she has been to big cities before, but she said that to experience one by herself in a different country was “pretty cool.”
Kate Found that while in America she could not really pick a favorite food because she loved everything from Hu Hot to Coldstone to Panchero’s. “It’s delicious” Kate commented when talking about the food.
While in America Kate believes that she has improved a lot, but still has some “foreign moments”. Kate Wants to visit America again and even wishes to go to college here. For her final comment she said that she “will never regret the decision to go abroad for a year, will take the memories she has made this year with her through her whole life, and will miss all of her new friends SOO much when she has to leave.”
Our other FES (Foreign Exchange Student) came from Crimmitchau, Germany. His name is Toni Schulze. He made many friends while here through school, and his sports that he participated in Football and Tennis.
Toni was able to visit two major cities, Chicago and Minneapolis. Toni said,” it was amazing, i have never seen any skyscrapers like the ones in Chicago. It was so impressive.” Toni thought that the large cities were very impressive, but was certain he would not want to live among the millions of people in those cities. Toni’s favorite food in America was Tacos.
Although Toni had many American experiences he still “hates” baseball because it is “very boring.” Toni said that he would do this again in an instant and feels like his English became easy after about 4 months. He feels like he is still improving every day, but feels much more comfortable speaking English.
Toni plans to visit America again once he is done with his school back home. For Toni’s last words of the interview he said,” I made a lot of friends and memories. I got to know a lot of great people and cities, and I now know what i want in my life.”
To both of the FES we will all miss you and hope you come back to visit our tiny town again soon.
Countdown till the end
It’s getting hotter and the projects and tests are piling on, it can only mean one thing.
THE END OF THE YEAR!!!
For seniors, there are 9 days of this school year left, and for juniors, sophomores, and freshmen, there are 10 days.
”I can’t believe it’s almost over,” said Paige Wheeler, ’11, “it seems like only a few days ago we were just freshmen.”
While Jessica Becker, ’13, has a different take on the year ending.
“I’m so excited for summer and to just be done with high school for a little bit. Senior year seems so far away.” she said.
Whether we are sad or happy to be leaving Wilton, one thing is for sure: The end is almost here, so we better get ready.

Seniors’ last words
New freshman are scared because they have no idea what to expect of highschool, and seniors are coasting with easy classes because they are almost done. But some seniors gave a few words of advice to help everyone with their highschool experience.
Raechel Mullin said that the one thing she regretted in her high school career was the the friendships that got ruined. Her advice to seniors was to have fun, and to not stress the little thing. You have too much to worry about to let the small things add any stress to your life. Her advice to any upcoming freshman was to not fail classes, but she lightheartedly added “or just don’t fail at life.”
James Morrison Regretted that during his freshman year he didn’t do his homework, which is why his advice to upcoming freshman was to keep your grades up. Freshman often times underestimate highschool and choosde not to do their homework, but this will catch up to you when you are a senior and have to add a summer class just to graduate. James other advice to freshamn was to not take the seniors too seriously. They are the oldest and biggest of the school, but often times they are not mean, so you don’t need to fear them. James’ advice to seniors was the not be full of yourself simply because you are the oldest in the school, and that it is ok to joke with freshman, but don’t take it too far.
Tyler Hartley commented that his regret was that he had not built his schedule to have more challenging courses. Tyler wanted to tell upcoming seniors not to coast and to take even your last year of high school seriously. He wanted to advise freshman that “high school is what you make it” this means your can have four terrible years because you choose to not do your homework and skip class, or you can make them great by keeping up your school work and having fun with your friends.
Derek Pankow regretted both not taking all four years of a foreign language and not taking more MCC classes for college credits. Which is why his advice to seniors was to take as many college classes as you possibly can. these classes are great because not only does the scholl pay for the class and books, but also you get both high school and college credit for doing them. His advice to freshman was to build your schedule so that you get all four years of your foreign language done in high school. Foreign language is required to get into some colleges, and also if you wait until college to take it then it will be a much harder, and faster paced course.
Through all of this advice what you should really take away is that high school can be great and full of fun memories and great accomplishments through hard work, or it can be full of regrets and “shoulda, coulda, woulda’s” if you choose to not put effort into your classes.
